Gyula Holics (1919-1989)

Musician, photographer. In 1956, founding member of the Association of Hungarian Photographers, and in 1957 also inducted into the Művészeti Alap [Foundation for the Arts]. In 1960, he receives the AFIAP, and in 1971 the EFIAP International Distinctions for Photographic Merit. Between 1955–1970, he regularly participates in international photography exhibitions. His first solo show is organised in the Fényes Adolf Terem [Adolf Fényes Hall] in 1973. He also takes part in the 1981 exhibition at the Műcsarnok [Kunsthalle Budapest] entitled Tény-kép. A magyar fotográfia története 1840-1981 [Fact-Image – The History of Hungarian Photography 1840-1981], and his works also appear in the 1983 volume published by Gábor Szilágyi – Sándor Kardos: Leletek a magyar fotográfia történetéből [Artefacts from the History of Hungarian Photography]. In his photographs he experiments with the depth of focus and shadows, as well as playing with proportions and visual rhythm.
