József Pécsi (1889-1956)
Photographer. Studied at the Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt für Photographie, Chemigraphie, Lichtdruck und Gravüre in Munich, and already in the 1910s, was a participant and organiser of photographic exhibitions. His photos and articles were published continuously in professional journals, and he was an active figure in photography education, in 1913, he founded the first state photography department of the Budapest School of Industrial Design. An important area of his work is advertising photography, and at the time, the use of photographs in advertisements became widespread. His self-portraits, nudes and still life photographs are also defining pieces in Hungarian photographic history.
