Kálmán Szöllősy (1887-1976)

Photographer. An amateur photographer from 1906 and studied under Iván Vydarény and the masters of Hungarian style photography, Ervin Kankowszky and Rudolf Balogh from 1920. He was a functionary until 1932 and from then on, became a full-time photographer. He took nude photographs, romantic genre pictures, Hungarian style images of life in the countryside, landscapes and cityscapes. He presented his works at numerous exhibitions in Hungary and abroad and they were published in foreign magazines such as Camera, Amateur Photographer and Fotofreund. He was an active organiser of the photography community, founded ILL-PHO photo agency and later took part in organising Fotókollektíva [Photo Collective]. After 1945 he opened a studio, published essays, taught photographers and was a founding member of the Association of Hungarian Photographers in 1956.
